The head of the Union for the Patria inter-block in the Senate, José Mayans, defined the labor reform promoted by the government of Javier Milei as 'absolutely regressive' and 'unconstitutional,' and warned that its implementation could lead to a scenario of social violence. 'The State performs essential functions,' he emphasized, and stated that the debate on the labor reform 'is just beginning.' Mayans spoke of 'circumstantial' agreements and a lack of coherence with the historical principles of justicialism. 'They resigned themselves to fundamental flags linked to the rights of workers,' he stated. Regarding the economic scenario, he considered that the official program 'is not going to end well' if it does not incorporate criteria of social justice. 'When the salary is not enough to live, conflict is inevitable,' he affirmed, and linked the situation with growing tensions in different provinces. Finally, he criticized the government's vision of public employment and defended the role of the State in sensitive areas. 'One cannot despise teachers, doctors, or security forces.' Through Splendid AM 990, he recounted that the process was 'improvised' and with last-minute changes. 'They were modifying articles to get quorum and the final text was not even there,' he stated, and qualified the debate as 'vitiated of nullity from the beginning.' Mayans assured that the reform violates article 14 bis of the National Constitution and international treaties. 'It does not withstand analysis in Justice,' he pointed out, and anticipated that different sectors will go to the courts. He also questioned the creation of the Labor Assistance Fund (FAL), by sustaining that it implies a defunding of the pension system. 'They take resources from retirees to cover layoffs,' he expressed.
